Have you ever had that one album that came out at the exact right instant in your life? The one that seemed tailor made for whatever it was you were going through? For me, that album is Futures by Jimmy Eat World. October 19, 2004, it came into my life. In the days of the iTunes store’s infancy, I woke up early to go buy the album at Target before my 10am class.

On October 15, a personal event transpired that now seems insignificant, but at the time changed everything I knew about my life. Then into my life walks this new album by one of my favorite bands all about ambivalence, anxiety, and adjusting to a new world, exactly the crises I was facing.

I could wax poetic about all the parallels between my life and Jim Adkins’s words, but ultimately, that’s not what this is about. It’s about how I remember sitting in my dorm room seven years ago spending Halloween listening to this album, reeling from the events of the previous night. And even now, it still has the same impact.

Thanks, Jimmy Eat World, for making me feel this way both now and then. It’s appreciated.
